About the author

My name is Stephanie and I live in Wisconsin with my husband, my cat, and two small kids.  I work full time, not for pleasure or fulfillment, but to pay my bills…barely.

I mention that because when I was looking to the mommybloggers for some solidarity, I discovered that they’re all either upper-middle-class (or at least solidly MIDDLE-middle-class), or stay-at-home moms, or both.  Where were all the blogs for mommies like me?  Oh that’s right, we’re all busy working and trying to make everything from scratch to save some much-needed cash while playing single mom cause our husband has to work nights and weekends.  Well, that and playing around on the internet.

StephiCakes is a name that my grandmother bestowed on me. Embarrassingly when I was school-aged; endearingly when I grew up and learned that being embarrassed by your grandma is Not. Cool!   The shortened nickname version of this nickname is Cakesy.  People actually call me this.

I decided to blog because my best friend told me to.  Honestly.  And also, I think it will be a good way to keep track of my life during this precious time (yes that was cheesy, there will be some cheese here) in the lives of my offspring.  Said offspring are:  Lorelai (Lola) born in November 2008, and Corbin born in November 2011.  Someday I hope to have a baby when it’s warm out.  🙂

Here is a post where I answered a bunch of questions about myself.

  1. Aaaand seriously funny. I’ve just gone through a page of posts and enjoyed it immensely. Parenting discipline advice commentary = Hilarious.

I’ve heard going from 1 to 2 kids is the toughest adjustment, so Kudos to you for working, managing “life” and finding time to blog and write so eloquently.

  2. It is difficult to balance everything. Kudos for making it work for you and your family. I must say, though, after having two babies in August in Oklahoma, I’m jealous! I got two because I tempted the universe, and that learned me! 😀 Nothing like feeling like a beached whale in 100+ temps. And having hubby’s precious auntie, whom I love, shout across the room, ‘Cheryl, your ankles are swollen!’ as if I hadn’t noticed. I love to share delicious, simple recipes too, come by and take a peek.

  3. Balance is key isnt it but it’s finding that balance…..it exists…..somewhere. When I find it I will let you know :S You’re blog is entertaining, I’m looking forward to reading more 🙂

    • thanks! I’m looking forward to hearing about your findings. 😉
I am also definitely discovering a lot more blogs than I realized that are so great! I shoudl probably adjust my about page.

    • Thank you so much! This is my first time getting this one. I don’t feel like following the rules right now. I take after my Lola that way. But maybe in an upcoming post, lol.

      • Sounds like a plan to me, usually I’m more of a procrastinator on these kinds of things as well, but it saved me from having to think up a post of my own this morning! hehe!

  4. Well here is another…I have nominated you for a Versatile Blogger Award and you can find it in my post today at

  5. You are the recipient of The Sunshine Award. Thanks for your delightful posts, and for the comments that you’ve left on my site.

  6. Hi! Just discovered your blog, and I’m loving it! Where in WI do you live….anywhere close to Waukesha, by any chance???? If you’re anywhere in the Milwaukee suburbs and looking for nonjudgy non-competitive mommy friends, then we should meet up sometime! I am currently living in Spain but will return to our house in Waukesha in July. I have a three year old daughter and a nine month old son, so our kids were meant for each other! ;). Anyway, aside from all that… I enjoy the blog and keep up the good work!

    • I’m south and a bit east of there. email me sometime. 🙂 I don’t really know how this blogging thing works, or if my email address is findable here, so just in case, it’s sskavis at hotmail.
